5 Tips For Cooking Valentine’s Day Dinner

In This Article:

With Valentine's day approaching, I know many people are trying to come up with ideas on how to show their loved one their appreciation. We all know about going out to dinner, flowers, chocolates, stuffed animals, cards, etc. In my experiences with Valentine's day, I have always liked it a little more when my significant others would do something creative. What better way to show your love and be creative than to cook for your significant other? Not everyone can cook a five-star meal, but here are some tips if you are planning to cook for your special someone.

1. Don’t be overconfident in your cooking skills

I'm not saying to not try to do your best and test your skills, but don't try to cook a meal that you probably can't even pronounce. It is better to keep it simple, and the food tastes good rather than ending up with no meal at all.

2. If the meal is simple, make the environment special

Don't feel bad if you are just cooking spaghetti and not a steak dinner. It's better to make sure the environment is even more special than the food. Try putting some balloons up, having rose petals everywhere, candlelight for the dinner, or some romantic music playing.

3. Don't burn the food

While you're trying to make sure everything is perfect from the flowers to the music, don't forget to pay attention to the food. There will probably be a lot going on, so it is very easy to forget about the chicken in the oven. In other words, the goal is to make sure the food is edible and not breaking teeth because it's burnt.

4. If you have to order takeout, hide the boxes

There will be some attempts at cooking dinner that won't work out as planned. Never fear because takeout is always an option. You shouldn't feel ashamed if you have to result to takeout, but you might want to hide the boxes to not blow your cover. That way you still get to share a nice meal with your loved one, and they still believe that you are the best cook ever!

5. Have fun and spread love

Last but not least, make sure you are still enjoying your time with you loved one. Don't forget to spread love to others that may not have someone to spend this day with.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
