5 Ways To Relax

Just me giving some tips on how I like to relax and hopefully you'll like them too!

These are just a few things I do to help me relax when I'm stressed and need a break.

1. Hot Tea

For a quick little break, try relaxing with a cup of hot tea. I particularly love a nice cup of hot jasmine tea. However, any type of hot drink will probably work. Just that feeling of something hot in your hands or a sweet scent filling your nostrils is normally enough to relax my body and mind, even if it's only for a short time.

2. Warm Shower

For a better way to relax, I take a nice long steaming shower. I normally put the water on steaming hot and put on some music, usually my Pandora station or a YouTube playlist. Nothing is more relaxing then hot water running over you and listening to your favorite jams. Don't stay in too long though! Can't have the water go cold or your fingers get all shriveled up!

3. Games

Another way to relax your mind is by playing some mindless games! Sometimes my friends and I hang out and just play some games together. Other times I just curl up in a comfy chair and play some games by myself. For example, sometimes I play farming simulators, like "Harvest Moon." I love the mindlessness of just taking care of my farm, crops, and animals. While other times I play "Pokemon" battles or contests with my friends. Nothing like winning against my friend and seeing them grumpy!

4. Favorite Shows

If I have some free time on my hands, I love relaxing in a chair and just watching some nostalgic shows, either by myself or with a few friends. There's nothing like kicking back and feeling like a kid again by watching some old shows. Specifically, something cheesy and classic will always bring my tired spirits up or at least get a giggle or two out of me. For example, my go-to show to watch when I need to relax is normally "Doctor Who" but recently I've also gotten into the habit of watching some "Power Rangers" as well. (No thanks to my "Power Ranger" obsessed roommate.) Hey, I'm not complaining though! Now I have a new show to make me feel like a kid again.

5. Napping!

My favorite way to relax is just simply taking a nap! When I have gotten most of my work done and I'm feeling drained of energy, nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing, is better than falling into bed for a nap. In fact, I've gotten to be known as the sleeping member of my group of friends because they always find me either just getting up from a nap or about to take one. What can I say, I like turning my mind off completely and snuggling up in some soft blankets with a stuffed animal or two. I even decided to make one of my 4D homework assignments based off my need for multiple naps!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
