Happy syllabus week! (Should I even say happy?) If you are like me, you are currently in syllabus week or have already gone through syllabus week. Let me tell you, it is a stressful week. If you aren't in college or don't know what a syllabus is; it is a description of what you will be covering in class, the objections, the rules while in class and usually the schedule for the semester (some professors might give a course schedule separate from the syllabus).

This week is one of the most stressful weeks. Once this week is over you have successfully put your assignments into your planner, you know that you are going to do well since you have everything planned out. Here are just a few tips to make it through syllabus week so you don't feel overwhelmed.

1. Plan

If you don't have a planner, please purchase one ASAP. A planner is one thing that will get you through college successfully. One thing that I suggest is to take a few different color pens and assign each pen a class. This will help you see what is due for what classes and not get confused if you just use one color pen.

2. Get lots of sleep

This week is a stressful week, so make sure you get enough sleep. It is also one of the weeks that you have less homework. You will regret this towards the middle and at the end of the semester when you are staying up late studying and not getting enough sleep.

3. Do Not Worry.

Do not worry about the work load. It might look like a lot at first, but if you use your time wisely this week and plan out everything, you shouldn't have to worry about the work load. If there are some assignments that you can start ahead of time, start them now. The due dates come up pretty fast and you don't want to start a big assignment the night before it's due.

4. Be on time

Be on time for all your classes this week, maybe early is better too. Being early, you can start to pick where you will want to sit. In college, you don't have assigned seats, however, once the second and third week comes around you start to realize people have their favorite spots claimed. So arriving to class early this week will help to have you find a good seat in class that will keep you away from distractions.

5. Make friends/be friendly

My last piece of advice is to try and build community in classes. It is helpful to try and get a few people you can talk to in each class. If you happen to miss a class you need to find a reliable person that you can get notes from. It always helps to have people that you can turn to for this in your courses.

Well, I hope some of these tips you will be able to use. I wish you all the best during syllabus week. Yes, it is a stressful week but hold through because if you use your time wisely during this week and set up a good schedule, you can do well and have an awesome semester in your classes!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
