Not everyone was born to be an organizer, and that's OK. I know almost better than anyone else what it's like to have a cluttered closet, a cluttered desk, and most definitely a cluttered life in general. I do try to keep things as together as possible, though, so I thought I'd share a few tips on how to keep the clutter in your day to a minimum, whether it be in the office or in your head.
1. Get a planner.
Trust me, I know how deadlines can catch up to you quickly and make you feel rushed and anxious. With a planner, it makes things so much easier when you just need to jot something down so you don't forget it. Get a decorative one, or one with a cute quote on it, just so that motivates you to actually use it.
2. Hang a wipe-off board somewhere.
Wipe-off boards are perfect for little daily reminders, like what to pick up at the store, or what time you promised your mom you'd pick up your little brother from soccer practice. It helps to put the board somewhere you look or walk past a lot, like next to the front door, or on the fridge.
3. Journals are good friends to have.
If you have a lot of thoughts like I do, a journal could be one of the best possible things you can own. You can put your ideas onto paper and decorate it all as you please, making it your own little piece of artwork. Some people aren't that great at putting words on a page, so even just a notebook for doodles or scribbles is always something nice to have.
4. Organize your closet by color.
This sounds like a hassle, and it might be, but some of the most organized friends I have keep their closets color coded. This could actually help a lot, making it easier for you to access certain clothes you want without digging through your closet trying to find one of the eleven green shirts you own, just decide you want to wear your blue one instead.
5. If none of these tickle your fancy, get a good friend who can remember things for you.
Sometimes it's just impossible to remember everything you have going on, so with two people trying to remember those important things, it should all be quite easier. I know without some pals of mine, I would have missed multiple football games or would have had to turn in a half written English essay. Also, find some good friends that are also good listeners. They can help clean out some of that clutter in your mind that isn't necessarily defined as anything that can be organized by hand.
Not everything is easily organized, but these are just a few small ideas and tips to help out. And remember, post-it notes, paper clips, and colored pens are your best friends. Let them help you out.
