5 Tips To Fix A Bad Day
How Stuff Works

Bad days are inevitable-- they are just a part of life. Even if your life is going exactly the way you want it, one thing can happen that will knock you down and totally ruin it for you.

That may sound pessimistic, but it's true! Everyone needs to have an off day every now and then-- it's what makes us human. However, one thing shouldn't be able to completely ruin a 24 hour chunk of our lives. Life is short, as they say.

So, to combat the inevitable bad day, I've compiled a few things that always make me feel better when things are rough. They may not work for everyone, but give them a try-- you might just find the one thing that works for you!

1. Blast your favorite band/ album and sing at the top of your lungs.

It is physically impossible to not be slightly happier when you're belting your favorite song.

Go in your room, plug in your speakers, and sing as loud as you can.

Pro Tip! If you interpretive dance too, the effects of this will be doubled. Double the happy-- who can go wrong?

2. Take a nap.

Let's be real-- naps are the greatest thing on this Earth. I take naps even when I'm the happiest person alive, simply because are amazing and one of my favorite parts of life.

If you're not a nap person but you're having kind of a crappy day, napping is something you should try. Even if you hate it and it makes you feel worse than before, it was worth a shot!

But you're not going to hate it. Just trust me on this one.

It's all about the experience.

3. Read your favorite book/ binge watch your favorite show

My go- to when I'm upset is Law and Order: SVU. It's nearly impossible to be unhappy after watching nine episodes of dedicated detectives investigating vicious felonies.

But seriously, this works like a charm. Sit down, turn your lights off and forget everything else. Sometimes you just need to escape your own life for a few hours.

4. Talk about whatever it is that made your day bad.

When I'm really upset, I tend to say things that don't make sense. I have a really hard time explaining why I'm feeling the way I'm feeling, and that often just makes things worse.

Find someone you know will understand your ramblings. Having someone to listen to you even when you don't really know what you're talking about helps you feel more justified in feeling the way you do.

5. Wallow in your own misery for a little while.

Sometimes, there really is no other option than to sit in the dark and think about how awful things are. Even if, in the grand scheme of things, they're really not that bad, your feelings are valid and you deserve to have a few moments of self- pity.

Don't feel bad and don't apologize for it. If all you need to do to combat a bad day is feel bad for yourself, you do that. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

Just don't wallow in your bad day forever-- life really is short. Make the best of the next day and put the bad ones in the past.

You got this!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
