For many college students, midterms and finals are approaching, which means hours at the library, several cups of coffee, and pulling all-nighters. All these things can lead to some pretty bad study habits. So here are some tips to help improve the way you study!
1. Read your notes out loud
Whenever you have a class that involves a lot of notes about vocabulary and understanding concepts you may find it effective to read them out loud. In a recent study, it was proved that reading your notes out loud was more effective than just reading your notes in your mind.
2. Try to explain it to others
One of the best ways to see if you understand the concepts is to try and explain it to others. By attempting to explain it to others you can see if you truly understand the concept and see what you still need to learn. Additionally, if you have friends taking the same subject you can try to quiz each other.
3. Remember to stay hydrated and eat healthy snacks
It's important to care for your body during this stressful time. Remember to drink water and eat healthy snacks while studying. By eating healthy and drinking plenty of water, you'll make sure that your health is in perfect condition for studying and your upcoming exams.
4. Take breaks!
Taking breaks at regular intervals will help you remember the material better and keep your body healthy. These breaks should be around 5-10 minutes after studying for 30-45 minutes. But make sure these breaks don't last too long!
5. Discover your learning style
We all have our own ways of learning material. The three styles are:
Auditory learners: prefer to learn by listening
Visual learners: prefer to learn by seeing
Tactile/kinesthetic learners: prefer to learn by doing/hands-on
Figure out your style of learning and tailor your studying to best match it.
Hopefully, these tips help you all study more effectively. Good luck with all your upcoming exams!
