1. Take a deep breath.
Dogs are spectacular- this one is no more spectacular than any other spectacular dog you may see in your lifetime. Unless it has a really curly tail or is a corgi. Then you’re out of luck.
2. Ask if you can pet the dog before you drown it with your tears.
Be considerate and resist the urge to simply maul the dog with love and kisses. Do not be like this cat. This cat exhibits terrible form 0/10 would still pet.
3. Let the dog sniff your hand before you give it the love and scratches it deserves.
This will give you an additional moment to gather yourself. This horse has excellent manners.
4. Keep your visit short and sweet.
Sadly the doggo’s person probably has places to be and things to do- you cannot spend the rest of the day with the dog.
5. Save your tears until you get home.
You did it!! You visited with a pupper in public and didn’t melt into a pile of happy tears and too many feelings. Be proud of yourself. Now you go home and melt into a pile of joy as you replay your visit over and over again in your head.
