5 Tips For Sorority Recruitment

With winter break coming to an end, it is time to get ready for the most anticipated event of the spring: sorority recruitment. If you are anything like I was, you have no idea what to expect when you show up on campus for rush. Here are a few tips to help you make the most of your rush experience:

1. Have an open mind.

It can be hard to set aside preconceived ideas about certain groups and form judgements for yourself. However, it is never beneficial to limit your options based solely on what others have said. Give everyone a chance and form your own opinions. You wouldn't want to miss out on something great just because you weren't willing to give it a try.

2. Ask all of your questions.

Recruitment is just as much for you as it is for the sorority sisters. Use your conversations to get answers to all the questions you may have about a particular sorority or greek life in general. The more information you have, the better decision you can make in the end.

3. Come prepared.

Rush days are long and breaks are few and far between. Make sure to carry a water bottle and a few snacks with you every day. You will need the energy come the last party of the day.

4. Get lots of rest.

After hours of non-stop standing and talking in hot, crowded rooms, the best thing you can do for yourself is get some rest. There is nothing worse than feeling exhausted the next morning before the day has even begun.

5. Be yourself.

The whole purpose of rush is to find a home for the next four years. The only way that you can find the place where you truly belong is to be completely yourself every day of recruitment. Form genuine connections with the girls and everything else will fall into place.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
