5 Tips For Move In

If you've never moved into a dorm before you will need these tips! Even if you're a returning student these tips are helpful!

1. Bring your own carts.

Not all dorm move ins are going to have nice big carts for all of your stuff. Bring your own just in case. You can always leave it in the car.

2. Put your clothes in big plastic bins.

Please for your sake and everyone else's do not hang your clothes on hangers on the side of your cart. You will hit a bump and they will fall off. Not to mention the sheer amount of space that takes up. Trust me. Put them on hangers, in dry cleaner bags, fold them, and then put them in the big plastic bins.

3. Hang lights in your room.

Christmas lights are the best thing to ever happen to dorm rooms. Just as an experiment do the lights last so you can see how it looks without it first. It adds so much warmth and a touch of home. It's too easy to not do.

4. Bring everything you want to bring.

Don't let someone tell you you're bringing too much. Bring your whole summer wardrobe girls and don't let anyone else tell you its too much. Trust me you will be able to find room for everything. If not go to Target and buy plastic drawers for your extra stuff.

5. Sign up for early move in!

I signed up for early move in at Newman Hall. Now I only moved in one day early but I am currently sitting in the cafeteria writing this having my coffee while the chaos unfolds around me. People and their stuff are everywhere. Not to mention moving in at a different time than your roommate makes setting up so much easier.

Enjoy move in! Be nice to your parents they are only trying to help you. They are going to miss you when you're gone.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
