Being young and having our whole futures ahead of us, we don't seem to worry about little things like taking care of our skin. We're young, right? We'll look like this forever... except we won't. Taking preventative measures will help with things like wrinkles down the line. Take care of your skin today, so it remains healthy later on down the road.

1. Do not sleep in your makeup.

This is not a fairy tale. Prince Charming is not going to come kiss you in your slumber, so take that pore-clogging foundation off your face. If you tend to wear mak up every day, this applies to you the most. Leaving your caked-on makeup all day and night can cause acne and can enlarge your pores. The best thing to do is to remove makeup with a makeup remover, wash with a mild soap and apply moisturizer before going to sleep. I realize if you end up staying at his place for the night, that you probably aren't going to take your make up off before bed. It's okay every now and then, but don't let sleeping in your make up become a habit.

2. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.

You may have been going out and drinking a little more than usual lately, so be sure to replenish your body with lots of liquids. (Preferably drink water.) Water obviously helps to cure dehydration, which is what often happens after consuming alcohol. Dehydration makes skin appear more dry and wrinkled. Try to keep a bottle of water on you, and be sure to drink it throughout your day.

3. The importance of exfoliating.

Exfoliating gets rid of deep dirt and dead skin cells. It is important to exfoliate your skin once a week, twice a week at most. Exfoliating helps to get all the impurities out of your pores. However, over-exfoliating can lead to irritation, dryness and redness. If you experience these symptoms, cut back on the exfoliator and use a more gentle face wash.

4. Eat less sugary foods.

Sugar tends to increase hormones that are directly related to sebum production. Sebum is the oil that your face produces. When too much oil builds up... you get acne. Don't make yourself unhappy by cutting out all your sweets, just be sure to regulate how much you eat.

5. Get in a beauty routine.

Every morning before I put on my makeup and before I go to bed I have the same daily routine. First I wash my face in a mild, organic face wash. (I like the organic kind because it doesn't contain parabens or phthalates.) Then, I use a refining toner lotion to remove anything I might have missed when washing my face. After I let that dry, I apply my facial moisturizer. If it's the morning and I have to put on my makeup, I apply a pore perfecting primer too. These simple steps keep your pores happy. Happy pores and clear, vibrant skin equals a happy you.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
