As a college student it becomes extremely difficult to balance all that life throws at you. As a college student, you are faced with a number of things that you must learn to balance. There is this expectation that you must balance being both a kid and an adult, having fun and doing your school work, and managing good grades while keeping a job. These things become overwhelming for student because along side all of this they are still trying to figure out who they are. Here are 5 tips to help stay balanced while in college:

Always Find Time to Relax

Always find time to relax. Your brain is probably going a million miles a minute, even in your sleep. With all that going on you'll never be able to get anything organized until you give your brain a break. Take a couple of hours or maybe even a whole day, turn your phone on do not disturb, and relax. Whatever that looks like to you.

Be Honest With People About Your Time

Be honest with people about your time and your intentions. No one can read your mind so if you don't tell them you are overwhelmed they won't know. It is totally okay to tell your friend that you won't be able to make it to that party, or even tell your study group that you have studied enough for the night. You aren't obligated to anyone else's expectations of you, so do what you need to do so that you are taking care of your health.

Stay Focused

You are the only person who knows what your ultimate goal is in life, so you have to make decisions that are in alignment with that. If you know that you want to be a doctor one day it is totally okay to put more effort into your math and science classes than in your history course. And, if you know you want to be an artist you can make a few passes in your biology class without feeling like you failed at college. Just make sure that it is all in your own comfort zone.

Have Fun

For most college students this is the last moment in your entire life where you still get to be a kid even a little bit. Take advantage of it. On Friday night it is definitely appropriate to go out and have fun with your friends instead of studying for a test that isn't for another week.

Surround Yourself With Positive People

If people have negative energy they can't motivate you to do positive things and balance requires positivity. There is no way that you can balance all that life will through at you with a negative attitude. So, if you find yourself overwhelmed with negative energy think of something that always brightens your day.

Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.
