5 Times You'll Miss Your College Friends This Summer

5 Times You'll Miss Your College Friends This Summer
Jamie Warren

In the midst of the chaos of finals week, the only goal in my mind was to make summer come as soon as possible. My mind was filled with daydreams of warm weather, beach days and especially no homework. Although my love for summer is undeniable, there is one thing summer is missing, and that is the amazing people I call my best friends.

I like to say college gave me a taste of independence, but when I think about it, we all rely on each other more than a child does to a mother. Who will pick out my outfits for me this summer? Seriously, my mom stopped picking out my outfit years ago just for my college friends to step in and pick out my entire outfits from head to toe. I truly don't know what I will do without all of you this summer, and there will be many times I know I will miss you a little extra than usual.

1. When it's 1 a.m. and you're craving pizza.

So... you're telling me it's not longer acceptable to order pizza this late at night? Can I just order a small to myself? Is that weird? Maybe I can wake up my parents; they might want some Dominos, too. Then again, they haven't had dining hall food for months. They wouldn't know how to appreciate a less-than-mediocre pizza.

2. When you have to make decisions on your own.

I know you're all just a text or phone call away, but it's not the same. It was so much easier when you could raid my closet and throw something at me to wear when I couldn't decide. How will I make the game-time decision on what I should eat for dinner without you guys by my side? You also always made my decisions on whether or not to go out at night, and the answer was always "go out," of course. The best part is that you were also the same ones making the decision for me to get out of bed the next morning to complete the work I didn't finish from the night before. You always helped me make the best decisions, for the most part.

3. When you're waking up.

I no longer can wake up every day to your no-so-bright hungover faces and I hate it. It was so easy when I could barge into your room, if you weren't already sleeping on my floor, to recap our entire night of events. There is nothing like knowing we can walk right to each others' room whenever needing anything at all.

4. When you're sick.

Yes, whatever type of sickness this may be. From a simple cold to a hangover, I could always count on you guys to go the extra mile. From holding each other's hair back to a nice Dunkin coffee in the morning. Seriously, I run on you guys when I'm sick.

5. When you're composing an important text.

Again, with the independence thing. We all seemed to have forgotten how to communicate without the help of five girls telling each other what to say. Honestly, I'm not sure how many ways you could possibly reply to a text "hey" from a guy, but somehow we make it a bid deal -- and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I may not be a few rooms down from you, but I will always be here for you even when we are a part this summer. There is no one I'd rather have hit the send button on my phone, hold my hair back, or pick out my outfit than you guys. You have taken the roles of a mother, friend and sister for me at college, and you are the best at being all of them. Here is to a great summer, and for some more unforgettable, sometimes forgettable, nights next time we're back at school.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.
