6 Times Our Generation Overreacted To Social Media Updates
Unleashing Your Brand

So, I don't know if you've all noticed, but humans have the tendency to overreact. Especially teenagers and young adults. While some of these reactions can be offered a token of grace, some of them are wildly ridiculous. We laugh at our parents and grandparents who moan and groan about having to pay two dollars for a cup of coffee. "Back in my day, I could buy a cup of coffee for a nickel!" Yes grandpa, and you also walked to school in five feet of snow both ways. We know!

But what people of our generation do now realize is that we react just as irrationally to changes in our life, specifically updates on social media. You know, those apps that control our lives... Apparently they control our tempers too. Recently, Instagram updated their app and Twitter never heard the end of it. Isn't funny how we use one social media site to complain about another? This trend is so amusing when you think about it. Here are 6 times our generation has irrationally overreacted to a change in social media:

1. Instagram's most recent update.

Although the app's icon has changed and the blue and brown color scheme is lost forever, everything else about the app (the important stuff like editing tools and the ability to like photos of people you follow) remains intact. Still, people have responded with hatred. Here are just a few examples:

2. That time Twitter transitioned from favorites to likes.

What's so different between a star and a heart? Apparently, a lot! Many were enraged by this change. But, hey, congratulations to us for adapting to such brutal conditions.

3. Why does Facebook REQUIRE messenger?

I would like to be able to send a message on Facebook without having to have a second app. You think I have storage on my phone for that? Sure, I could delete a handful of my 1,500 photos or 50 videos, but it's all just very inconvenient. I'm upset.

4. When Snapchat updated stories.

What do you mean I can't see how many seconds someone's story is? How do I know what I am getting myself into? There is, like, no warning. Also, why do all stories play consecutively? What if I was avoiding that person?

5. Instagram video views.

Views. Views. Views? Views? And no, I'm not talking about Drake's latest album. Why does Instagram tell you how many views your video got? What happened to the likes? How am I supposed to measure my self-worth if this number is a mystery to me?!?

6. When The Odyssey updated their site.

There's no way I was the only writer who was annoyed by this change. It took all of ten minutes to figure out the new format, but wow was it a huge inconvenience!

Despite our generation's angsty response to these social media changes, we continue to use the apps. They run our lives. Odds are, if you are reading this, you found it through social media. So while you're here, share this article, but above all, keep double tapping, keep using that dog filter, keep subtweeting, and keep following. Blessings on our endeavors.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
