What am I doing with my life?

5 Thoughts While Your Best Friend is on Vacation
Sarah Bowman

It's Christmas break, which means everyone has gone home for the holidays. You don't have classes anymore, so you probably will never see the guy who sat next to you in your general biology lecture again. You think that since there are no more classes, it equals more time with your best friend.

But then they tell you they're going on vacation for Christmas.....

1. "Umm what?..."

You weren't expecting this. You would think that she would have told you ahead of time because you have to actually plan a vacation. But it was a spur of the moment thing that her extended family invited her on, so you feel a little better.

2.  "What am I going to do without you?!"

There's a little glimmer of hope in the way you ask this because you're hoping she says she'll bring you along. Although, in all seriousness, she's been there for you since day one. Y'all have been through EVERYTHING this crazy college world has thrown at you. Now you have time to relax and enjoy real time together other than studying or food runs for studying, and she's leaving.

3. "You better send me snapchats the whole time!"

You couldn't be any more serious, especially when she says she's going somewhere fun and exciting, like the Florida Keys. You love seeing everything that's going and all the new things, but the real reason is you still want to feel like you're with her. You actually care if she put the filter on the picture that shows how warm it is. You want to see the cool geo filters they have for wherever she is. You're also probably bored because she's the only person you talk to.

4. "What am I doing with my life?"

You realize you've been in bed for three days straight, constantly telling Netflix "yes, I'm still watching". Your cute snapchats to each other have become more of just her cute snapchats and you replying with a blanket covering your messy bun. You finally find the motivation to actually go out and do something like shopping. Now that she's gone, you can actually go out and find her Christmas present without having to shoo her away. You also start doing some weird time wasting games keep your mind off of things. You've challenged everyone you know to your iMessage games.

5. "Never leave me again!"

You've been counting down the days she'll be home. And after a long, agonizing seven days, you're finally getting the text messages telling you how many hours she has until she's home. It's like a scene in a movie where you run into each other's arm because the shortest time with each other is better than any time apart.

You find yourself some independence, which everyone needs, but you always want your person there for you no matter what. But now that she's back, you have more than just boys to talk about. New conversation starters are always a plus. You also know she's truly surprised and happy with her Christmas present. Next time, you'll plan a best friend vacation and it'll be more than anyone expected.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
