New Year's resolutions never worked for me. I need more motivation than that. 2016 was a year for the books-- both history books (wonderful election wasn't it?) and personal photo albums (being engaged is still pretty cool). With all that said, here are five thoughts I have for the new year.
1. Stop waiting for an easier season
The phrase "we're in a difficult season right now" floats from the mouths of nearly everyone, particularly my fiance and I. Not to detract from the challenges we've faced in the last few months, but what if this is just going to be what life is like? Yeah, it's hard, so what? God is good and He doesn't change. Hard seasons are opportunities to grow in trusting Him. When our eyes are fixed on Christ the struggle dims in comparison.
2. Sanctification takes work
You means being made holy doesn't just happen? Yes, yes I do. It takes blood, sweat, and tears (or worse, humility) and it's worth every bit of effort. God rewards those who obey His commands and chase after His heart.
3. Build the relationships
As an introvert, this can be stretching for me. I love meeting with people one-on-one or in small groups, but large groups of people can feel draining. I have to keep reminding myself God gives grace when we submit to His leading. Being stretched isn't a bad thing either. People are usually pretty cool.
4. Focus on the good
In a world focused on complaining and the superficial, being truly thankful can be quite the task. There are so many good things to be thankful for! This week I'm particularly thankful for my fiance. After flipping his car and walking away with only a few scratches that man is truly a miracle.
5. Drink the water
Tried and true grandma advice: drink the water. It helps the digestive system, the cognitive ability, the decision making, and the muscles. It's good for you so just do it and listen to grandma.
Happy New Year everyone!
