5 Thoughts Every Women Has But Shouldn't Be Having
The Odyssey

Nowadays women are looking towards celebrities and social media to set the platform for what is beautiful. What fashion trends are in, how we should be wearing our makeup, doing our hair and even how our body should look. These unrealistic standards of beauty that are being set are tearing down the confidence of women all around the world. Women are looking in the mirror with a mind full of insecurities telling themselves they are not good enough. Instead of finding validation from within, we are comparing ourselves to women that are idolized as beautiful. Our minds are being clouded with negative thoughts that should never cross a women's mind.

Here are five thoughts that due to unrealistic beauty standards, cross the mind of every women daily:

1. "I can't wear that, I'm not skinny enough."

You can be a size zero or a size 12 and in either size you will be beautiful. Never define your beauty by someone else who was born with a completely different figure. You are beautiful in your own way. As long as you are confident, you can wear anything you see someone else wearing.

2. "Why can't I have the lips, cheekbones and eyebrows of a Kardashian."

It's no secret the Kardashians are gorgeous, but it's also no secret that they have glam teams and thousands of dollars to spend on plastic surgery. Their beauty is priced at thousands, your natural beauty is free. You just need to see the beauty in yourself.

3. "My boobs will never look that good in a shirt."

Not everyone is born with perfectly round, perky boobs. Most women are either using miracle working bras or have had some work done. But whether you are born with great breast or using your own tricks to make them great, you should never consider yourself anything less than perfect because of another woman walking down the street with perky boobs.

4. "I refuse to wear shorts because of the cellulite on my legs."

News flash ladies, the majority of women have cellulite!! A few little dimples on your legs should not stop you from wearing anything you want to wear. Cellulite is not a symbol of fat. Women of all sizes have cellulite.

5. "My skin will never look as flawless as celebrities skin does."

Keep in mind, these celebrities spend big bucks to make sure their skin is flawless. You may not have perfectly smooth skin but whether it is acne, wrinkles or scars, it should not make you feel any less confident in yourself. Embrace the skin you are in and you will look as beautiful as any other woman.

You are born the way you are. You can spend hundreds of dollars on makeup, different cremes and you can even go under the knife. But at the end of the day you are still in the skin you are born with and in order to feel confident in that skin, you must love it.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
