Often times people see Black Lives Matter and they instantly run away. The reason for this is because people do not understand the Black Lives Matters movement and its purpose.
Here are five misconceptions about Black Lives Matter.
1. The movement ignores Black on Black Crime
A lot of the time people feel that Black Lives Matter only cares about White on Black Crime. But, that is not true. Black Lives Matter cares about all crime and violence.
2. The movement has no goal
People mistake Black Lives Matter as a one-goal movement. This is not at all true. Black Lives Matters stands for many things, not just ending Police Brutality. Some of these goals are to create Decent and Affordable Housing for all races and to have a public education system that teaches the full history of African Americans. Currently in schools African American history is taught but a lot of important things and leaders are left out.
3. There is only one issue
This is something that I hear most often and it is simply not true. As stated in the previous section Black Lives Matters has multiple goals and these goals were created to end multiple issues.
4. The movement hates white people
This movement hates no one. Hate is a very strong word and honestly has no place in this movement. This movement just wants to ensure that all people apart of every race is accounted for and treated equally. It just so happens that right now, Blacks, as well as other minorities, are the ones not being treated fairly. So, sometimes it may come off that Black Lives Matters is against whites but that is not at all true.
5. The Church has no role in the movement
All churches have a role in this movement, including the Black Church. The reason that the church has a role is because of the teachings of God. Throughout God's teachings, he ensures us that everyone was created in his image and that we all are beautiful. The church continues to remind the movement of their importance to society and that we are all the same.
