Yesterday was move in day for my first year of college at FGCU and boy, was I unprepared. I had everything that I thought I needed, clothes, towels, XL twin sized sheets, a lamp, printer, whiteboard that I will probably only use the first week, but now, after multiple trips to Target, have I come to realize how unprepared I and multiple others were. We all brought the things that were on the list that you can find online, yet, there we all were fighting over the last 10 foot cable wire.
1. Cable Wire
This one is more optional and only if you want a TV in your room, but most people, like me, either forgot one, or thought it was provided, which it wasn't.
2. A trolley
No, not the ones you ride on, but the ones you put boxes onto transport easier. Thankfully, FGCU had many volunteers with trolleys helping out those moving in, but if it had not been for them, my move in experience would have been much, much less pleasant.
3. A set of drawers
They don't have to be expensive, Target currently has plastic, rolling drawers on sale for $8.99. You will need these because the drawers that are provided for you will not fit all of your T-shirts, shorts, sweatshirts in addition to your unmentionables. Actually, buy two, because you will also probably have a lot of other things like school supplies, make up, bathroom supplies, or even snacks, and no place to put them.
4. A universal remote
Again, this one is more optional, as you only need it if you want a TV in your dorm, in which case get it, because you will either not have brought your remote with you or you will have somehow lost it in the five minutes of being in your room. Or if you're like me, your TV remote doesn't have a button for channels (don't even ask, it's way too hard to explain).
5. An idea of how you're going to put up all those photos
Before you print all those cute photos to decorate your dorm with please remember that a thing of command strips costs like $8.99. I personally chose to to put all my pictures on string with clips, which costs about $15 (not including the photos) to put together.
