5 Items You Must Bring On Family Vacations

Summer brings with it the most wonderful time of the year…family vacations. When packing for your trip that is bound to be full of countless memories of all sorts, do not forget the following:

1. A deck of cards

What better way to bring the family together than a little healthy competition? Bringing a standard deck of cards will allow for pick-up games of all types, including Go Fish, Spit or my personal family favorite, Spoons.

2. Books

It is crucial not to forget to bring a few good books in case your family tends to be a little crazy…these can be used as your little escape!

3. Camera

Family vacations lead to the inevitable…endless picture taking opportunities. Be sure to have your digital camera, polaroid or simply your cell phone to document all the fun.

4. Extra food

You know what the saying…sharing is caring. Try coordinating with your family members to get a feel for who is bringing what, but a little extra never hurts! Food brings people together, so consider designating certain nights for each immediate family to make dinner.

5. A positive attitude

Leave your attitude at home. Going into a vacation with hostile vibes of past grudges only makes for a miserable and awkward time. So, put the claws away and relax. Do not stress if things do not go your way, just enjoy spending time with the people who love you.

If your family is anything like mine, the whole clan is only together twice a year. So, cherish the time you have together. Be sure to go into the week with a full heart and an open mind, because the memories made on family vacations are ones that will last a lifetime.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
