5 Things You Know If You Went To Rancocas Valley

Rancocas Valley Regional High School is more than just a school. It's a community -- a place where students, teachers, and alumni come together to form a unique place. If you're from the area, there are five things that make it extremely unique, especially when all of them are combined.

Rancocas Valley is a place where everyone feels like they belong and everyone is part of one whole community. When something happens, the community can come together to support each other like no other. It's one thing to say it, but feeling it is different. And all of the students, faculty, and alumni that have gone through there know exactly what it feels like.

Even with the one whole community formed out of many different people, of all different races, religions, ages, and cultures, there are a few things that set it apart from all other high schools.

1. Red and White Night

There are no words to describe this night except saying it is the best night known to man. Actually, known to all RV students since it's something that's one of a kind. Whether you're just watching from the stands, participating in an event, or organizing the whole thing, there's nothing more breathtaking than this night.

2. Homecoming Day

Float, Skit, Football, and the Dance -- Most students in high schools all around know the dance and know how important football is on homecoming day. It's usually a day where rivals meet to play in the biggest game of the season. But along with that, add the parade, the float, and the skit. The students of RV put so much time into creating and pomping the float to make it the best it can be and coming up with a nearly 8-minute skit that highlights many (if not all) aspects having to do with their theme. The time spent on these activities show the school spirit that each class has during this wonderful time of the school year.

3. Diversity

On the first day of school, a student walks in and the question that is asked is "what town are you from?" Usually, you'd look around and see very few people from Hainesport, a handful from Mt. Holly, and the most of the group divided upon those from Eastampton, Westampton, and Lumberton. But the truth behind it is that after a few weeks, it won't matter what town you're from, it's just known that “you're from RV."

4. Tutorial

This is something most schools don't have. This period is some of the most valuable time any high-schooler could be given. You know what it's like to be running around to classrooms to get the extra help from your teachers, to be meeting your friends for some sort of club or activity in the morning, or simply just getting breakfast from the cafeteria. Or finishing the homework you didn't finish the night before.

5. Early Dismissal, Late Arrival, and Lunch Out

It's a privilege that we get. All students can't wait until their senior year to know that they are done with classes and will only be in school for a little while. Whether it be coming in late for class, or leaving early from school altogether, or just getting to leave for lunch (even though you have to go back), it's that wonderful break you need and get lucky to have during senior year.

Whether you're commuting or dorming, your first year of college is a huge adjustment. The transition from living with parents to being on my own was an experience I couldn't have even imagined- both a good and a bad thing. Here's a personal archive of a few of the things I learned after going away for the first time.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.

For many undergraduates across the nation, the home stretch has begun. Only one more semester remains in our undergraduate career. Oh, the places we will go! For the majority of college seniors, this is simultaneously the best and worst year out of the past four and here’s why.

1. The classes you are taking are actually difficult.

A schedule full of easy pottery throwing and film courses is merely a myth on the average campus. With all of those prerequisites for the upper-level courses and the never-ending battle you fight each year during registration for limited class seats, senior year brings with it the ability to register for the final courses you need to fulfill your major. Yet, these are not the easy entry level courses. These are the comprehensive, end of major, capstone courses designed to apply the knowledge from all your previous courses, usually in the form of an extensive research paper or engaged learning project. The upside is you actually probably really enjoy these classes but alas there is no room for slackers here.
