Five Things You Have To Do During Welcome Week

Welcome week is one of the most epic times of the school year! Here are the five things you have to do during your first few days as a Sun Devil, or your first few days back.

1. Attend as many events as you can!

Between the Tiki Luau, the Welcome Concert and Passport to ASU, there are many interesting and fun things to occupy your time while you wait for classes to begin on Thursday! Take advantage of all the free activities that the university puts together because in reality, they are fun and you could meet some neat people!

2. Take a picture with Sparky!

This is your first opportunity of the year to snap a selfie with the best Sun Devil in the land! Not only is he adorable, he's got some sick dance moves too. Try to find Sparky around campus and grab a pic!

3. White Wash the A

This tradition is one of the coolest we have. You hike up A mountain with your fellow Sun Devils and paint our giant A white. This tradition is to signify the beginning the school year and the clean slate that it comes with! You get a little messy, and you can share this cool experience with your friends!

4. Collect all the free things you can.

The amount of free things they give out during welcome week is ridiculous. Free food, free shirts and everything in between ... you will have so much free stuff you won't know what to do with it all!

5. Do everything your heart desires

This is your time. College is when you're supposed to experience it all, so do it all! You don't have to report to anyone. You can literally do anything you'd like. And if you don't feel like doing anything, then you don't have to! That's the beauty of being on your own!

Have a wonderful welcome week, and let's get geared up for the new year!

Go Devils!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
