5 Things You Experience After Graduation

Hi everyone, my name is Mausmi! I recently graduated from GCSU with a B.S. in Psychology, and I've come to one conclusion: adulting is hard! While most of my classmates are off to grad school, I chose to get some work experience first. Within a few short months of graduation I've learned a few things and I want to share them with you. So, here are 5 things that you will probably experience after graduation.

1. Having a lot of free time...like a lot.

I've had to find hobbies for my hobbies because I have absolutely no commitments, which brings me to my next point.

2. Having no commitments.

It actually sucks. Think about it, you spend your entire life doing homework, studying for tests, and writing papers, all of which require time commitments. You're involved in clubs and organizations that require commitment. Then, all of a sudden you up and move away from your little college town and find yourself having way too much free time. It's fun for a few days, maybe even weeks, but then you just want to pull your hair out.

3. Not being able to find a job.

I live in a small town. How small you ask? Even smaller than Milledgeville! Currently, everyone here is freaking out about a Chick-Fil-A finally opening. Anyway, regardless of where you live, the story goes the same. We want jobs so we can gain experience, they want employees who already have experience. On the one hand, we're told to never settle for a job, we have to want the job as much as they want us. But what if they just don't want us? A lot of college graduates end up settling for okay-ish jobs. Hopefully that won't be the case for you or me. But if it is, then all I can say is we've got to start somewhere.

4. Missing all of your college friends.

I think this is the worst part, living far away from all of your college friends. No longer living in apartment complexes dedicated to only college students, no more late night ice cream runs with your roommates. It all changes when you graduate and it all takes a lot of getting used to.

5. Getting to make new memories.

There is so much more to experience in life. You just finished one chapter of your book, and you have a blank slate in front of you. This chapter can go in whatever direction you want it to. All of the change is scary and new, but it's exciting and filled with opportunities too.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
