5 Things You Can Actually Stick To Accomplishing This New Year

Every year we say we're gonna do, sometimes, crazy things. Some people say they're gonna lose weight, read/write a book, or maybe learn how to do something new. This year, here is a list of 5 goals you can actually stick to for the new year.

1. Stress less and worry less.

Everyone has stress and worries. Let's face that fact. We will never have a worry free or stress free life. It's time to embrace the stress and worry and overcome it. Find something that helps you relax. School and work can be stressful and overwhelming. Who says we have to give into that? There are plenty of ways to destress and relax. Find something that you like doing. Whether it's a relaxing bubble bath or maybe coloring, do something that helps you relax.

2. Be kind to others.

I know there are people you may or may not like the best. Sometimes you have to just put on a smile to make someone's day. This is something you can do all the time. Whether it's smiling at someone who looks sad, helping a friend study for a test, or just saying hi to someone. It will make your day to make someone else happy too.

3. Love more.

Love makes the world go round. At least that's how a saying I know goes. This year make an effort to love others. Love your family more. Love your friends more. Love your neighbor that plays the music too loud. Love others the way you would want to be loved. I promise you, loving and doing things for others will only make your year more rewarding.

4. Be a better version of you.

When it comes to you, you don't have to change your looks. You don't have to get a new hairstyle or change your makeup, just be a better version of you. Perfect the person inside and not worry so much about the outside appearance. Someone out there likes you for you so just be you! BeYOUtiful!

And finally,

5. Have fun!

Life is about learning how to dance to the beat of your own drum, dancing and singing in the rain, and about the moments that take your breath away. Study hard and do well in school but never forget to reward yourself and have fun. Reward yourself with a night out with the girls, have friends over for a movie night, or go bowling. Never forget the little things or people in your life that matter the most.

So there you have it a simple list of things to accomplish this new year. Don't worry about setting those big goals you'll give up after one week. Set simple goals that you know you won't forget!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. You feel like you will have never-ending classwork to catch up on if you miss class, so you end up going sick and then it just takes longer to get better. Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
