When December rolls around and the holiday season is in full blast, most of us are itching to go back home and see our families. While college life has its ups, those ups are equally met with downs. If it weren't for that month we have off for winter break, I think we'd all go crazy. These are some things I know I definitely won't miss about school this winter break...

1. Walking Everywhere

If you are on campus sans automobile like me, your main mode of transportation is your own two feet. Even if you do have a car, parking is usually a pain, and if you're traveling on campus, it makes most sense to walk. For the first few months this is no biggie, but after a while I really started to miss driving my car around to get from A to B. It really sucks in the winter. December becomes a battle against the bitter cold on the way to class and sometimes it doesn't seem worth it to even get out of bed. I will not miss braving the elements when I'm at home in warm cars and warm houses.

2. Dorm Rooms

Goodbye, tiny cubicle of someone else's mess and strange odors. Hello, big comfy bed and room all to myself. I have missed you dearly.

3. Community Bathrooms

Girls are gross. I cannot speak to the state of the bathrooms in boys' dorms, but sometimes the one on my floor is hard to stomach. Without going into too graphic of detail, let's just say I'm more than ready for the bathroom back home that doesn't have hair and other unpleasant things making a mess everywhere. Mom, you are a saint for your cleaning.

4. Dining Hall Food

While the folks who work in the dining halls are lovely people, the food gets old fast. Sadly, I don't have the funds to eat out all of the time, nor the proper amount of exercise in my life to combat the calories. Mom's home cooking is going to be a gift from heaven. At home I don't have to go outside or swipe an ID to get fed.

5. Homework, Tests, Studying, Classes...

Sometimes I wonder if going to college and paying thousands of dollars to endure so much stress is worth the piece of paper at the end. But, it's important we don't forget our goals. Breaks are much needed times of relaxation to get away from the hardships of academia and remember why we are doing it in the first place.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
