5 Things We've All Accomplished This Summer

Trust me, the list is a lavish one.

5 Things We've All Accomplished This Summer

As August arrives, despite our best intentions to make the high expectations that we had in our heads a reality, let's take a moment to reflect on what most of us have realistically been able to accomplish this summer:

1. Sleep

The #1 priority of any and all summers: catching up on the sleep we lost during the year…and then some. With no classes to attend, our beds were our only commitment, and committed to them we were. Sleeping the day away, with a little bit of Netflix in between, and the occasionaly exersize downstairs to grab a snack; I'd say that's a summer well spent.

2. The dreadful part-time job

We thought we were being responsible, we thought we’d be making bank; but we never expected the exhaustion and unrewarding benefits that belonged to a part-time job. Literally ask us what we did this summer, and instead of the response of, “I went to…” or, “I took a trip to…”, we will say “I worked...” with the depressing realization that our summer was consumed by a job that didn't even pay us nearly as close to what we expected or deserved

3. Treating ourselves... at the cheapest places possible

With the great money that our part-time jobs above pays, the activities and food we can afford limits itself; so when the words, "Let's go out to dinner tonight" are said, the automatic response from the second party tends to be, "something cheap". With that repetitive phrase, we turn our broke summers to the single $ sign on Yelp to list out our choices. And if that fails us, we resort to hanging out at friends' houses and the raiding of their kitchens to find relief.

4. Pokemon

Along with free activities comes the one and only Pokemon Go. Staying away from Rattatas and searching out Dragonites, as half the population is enthralled by the obsession, while the other half finds complete stupidity in glaring down at a phone while yelling Pokemon gibberish at each other. "Catching them all" at Pokestops has become the crazy phenomenon that the summer of 2016 will unfortunately always be remembered for.

5. Planning for next summer

As this summer comes to a close, we already turn to the yearning for next summer, creating bucket lists of things we need to, and this time, WILL accomplish, aspirations of which we simply couldn't find the time or means to check off this summer. And a girl can dream, so we dream away with new high expectations for next summer to be the best one yet.

Summer of 2017, where you at?

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

winter

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
