A new interpretation of a Disney classic

5 Things Everyone Is Excited To See In The New "Beauty And The Beast"

This past Monday, the final trailer aired for Disney's newest adaptation: Beauty and the Beast. I was a little more than excited, squealing internally at each new glimpse of the film we were given. The trailer has had over 5 million views, and 610K people are talking about it on Facebook. So here's a look at things in the film I know I'm super stoked for.

1. Emma Watson as Belle

I know this one is pretty obvious, and it's literally the main reason anyone gives for why they're excited about the movie, but seriously. Emma Watson. Belle. They're literally the same person! Emma is outspoken, yet polite, and she's kind, beautiful, and so smart. She also loves books (she's approved of Torch, Tiny Beautiful Things, and Wild via Twitter), and one of Belle's defining features is her love of novels. And I'm jealous of all the dresses Emma gets to wear in this movie!

2. The costumes

Speaking of the dresses, the costumes look amazing!! In previous articles, I know I've talked about how much I love a good twirly dress, and Disney princesses' dresses are the twirliest! Belle's iconic yellow dress and her blue and white town ensemble make appearances, but we also get to see her pink snow gown and two new white costumes. Even though Emma wanted the gold ballgown to be light and romantic, it was said in an Entertainment Weekly interview that "it was important that the dress was light and that it had a lot of movement...Belle is an active princess [so Emma] did not want a dress that was corseted or that would impede her in any way." That's pretty cool! Take a look below.

3. It's a musical!

How could you not be excited about this?! The original Disney Beauty and the Beast has such a beautiful and recognizable soundtrack, and this film promises open landscapes and a colorful crowd for 'Belle', a tavern full of energetic and lively singers for 'Gaston', and the right amount of Disney magic for 'Be Our Guest'. I was in this show my junior year of high school, and I can't wait to see a new cast sing and dance their way across the silver screen.

4. The rest of the cast

Dan Stevens, Josh Gad, Ewan McGregor, Emma Thompson -- this is going to be the best cast movie of 2017! Each of these individuals has quite the filmography already (some of them having starred in Disney movies or other musicals), and I can't wait to see how their on-screen chemistry comes through. I loved Dan Stevens in Downton Abbey and Josh Gad as Olaf has basically become an icon for kids worldwide.

5. A new interpretation of a Disney classic

As you may have guessed, I am head-over-heels in love with these live-action remakes. I love that a new version has the same plot line, characters, and costume color schemes, but that there are new details. Maybe it's the writer in me, maybe it's the movie nerd in me. It's probably both. But I reacted the same way to Cinderella, and I will continue to push for The Little Mermaid to join the lineup! Also speaking as a writer, it's so great creatively to be able to push limits and present something that people have loved for decades through a new lens.

What are your thoughts? Are you looking forward to the new 'Beauty and the Beast'?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
