Maryville College has the best location of any college in Tennessee. Located just a short drive up US-321 is the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Drive a little further and you will reach Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, where there is plenty of stuff to do. If that’s not enough, head up US-129N and within 25 minutes you will reach downtown Knoxville. Whether it’s a nightclub you're looking for or a place for Sunday brunch, Knoxville has got you covered. Here are 5 things you can do on a Maryville College weekend:

1. Go explore Cades Cove

Cades Cove is the perfect way to spend a Saturday or Sunday. Pack a lunch, grab a couple friends and go up to Cades Cove! Located in the midst of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, this 11-mile loop is full of breath-taking mountain views and wildlife that will make any iPhone photographer happy. If you want an extra special experience, force yourself to get up extremely early and get up there just as the sun is rising. The fog just begins to lift and most of the wildlife are out feeding. It’s worth it, I promise!

2. Stroll Market Square/Farmer’s Market

In the fall, Market Square is home to a fairly large Farmer’s Market. On Saturday mornings only, you can check out what local vendors have to offer and maybe leave with a great find. From natural hand soaps to license plate art, there is something for everyone. The best part about it is most everything there is handmade by the person in the tent. That’s pretty cool if I do say so myself.

3. Head up to Dollywood

In my opinion, Dollywood is the best amusement park in Tennessee. Located about a 45-minute drive away from campus in Pigeon Forge is Dolly Parton’s theme park, Dollywood. Home to 7 thrilling roller coasters, and plenty of other activities, such as live shows and an arcade. During Christmas, the buildings are lit beautifully with Christmas décor.

4. Hit up Club NV

Club NV is located in Downtown Knoxville’s Old City. Club NV is the only club that allows you to be under the age of 21. Anyone 18+ can enjoy dancing with friends, great music, and downtown Knoxville’s nightlife with one easy-to-get-to location.

5. Hang out at Louisville Point Park

Located about 15 minutes from campus, Louisville Point Park sits on the Tennessee River. Louisville Point Park has Kayak and Paddle Board rentals, a swimming area, plenty of pine trees for eno-ing, and a sand volleyball court. Spending a day at Louisville point park is a nice getaway that won't end up costing you an arm and a leg.

What do you do on the weekends?

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
