1. Sleep more
According to an article written in the New York Times by Rosenberg, "One out of three Americans do not get enough sleep, according to a new study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which found that sleep schedules varied by race, age and geography."
This is such a significant problem for your health because your body needs that time to sleep, I know I am guilty of saying I will catch up on sleep another day, but in reality never do. So, try to go to bed a half hour earlier than you normally do, you will wake up feeling a little more rested.
So, go dream about some tacos!
2. Make an effort to take the stairs
I know this sounds silly, however it will give you a little extra work out to your day. So, if you can take the stairs it's a great way to burn off that breakfast burrito you ate this morning!
So, go out there and climb away your little heart!
3. Get outside and enjoy the sun!
Your body needs a certain amount of Vitamin D, and the lack of sun in the winter here in Chicago makes people resort to taking vitamin D supplements. So, when a sunny comes get out there and soak up some rays (with the proper SPF on of course)!
Enjoy those rays!
4. Drink more fluids.
Your body is made of 80% water, so if you do not drink enough you will become dehydrated. According to an article published by Mayo Clinic in 2014, it, "The Institute of Medicine determined that an adequate intake (AI) for men is roughly about 13 cups (3 liters) of total beverages a day. The AI for women is about 9 cups (2.2 liters) of total beverages a day."
So, don't just drink water but other fluids!5. Try a new healthy food.
As a growing adult, I am expanding my food pallet. My new favorite thing to eat is roasted vegetables of any kind. As a kid I was always forced to eat a portion of vegetables with a meal, which I totally hated. But, now I realize the true health benefits of different types of vegetables, and different ways to cook them as well!
Make it a goal to try one new food a month/week!
