Every year when August rolls around, I start to get nostalgic about my gorgeous hometown that I am about to leave behind for the months to come. Now I am lucky enough to live in one of the most amazing places in the world, Northport, NY. From its great restaurants, convenient shopping, local beach and its quaint little town, it always proves to be the hardest place to leave. Now there are a million things to love about this community but I’ll go ahead and list ten things that I absolutely love about Northport.
1) Downtown
Now this goes without saying, but downtown Northport has it all. There are tons of delicious places to eat like Maroni’s, the Sweet Shop, or Copenhagen, on top of an amazing view. Northport even has a pretty good nightlife, especially now that the new Sand City Brewery opened up. This little town is a destination for all Long Islanders and we are lucky enough to have it in our own backyard.
2) Crab Meadow
Crab Meadow beach is the perfect place to go with your family on those hot summer days, and it’s even better at night when you want to catch the sunset and grab some dinner at La Casa. It’s even gotten better as time goes by, with its newer playset and cleaned up pavilion. It’s the perfect summer destination, only a few minutes from your home.
3) The Location
If you want to spend the day at the ocean, you’re a quick half hour to Jones Beach or Robert Moses. The city is only a short train ride away. And to top it off, the perfect weekend destination, Montauk, is only a two-hour ride away. There is nothing more convenient than that.
4) The Food
On LI, we are blessed with the best pizza and bagels in the world. Of course, Northport has Country Hot, Northside, Northport, Gino’s, La Casa, and tons more, on top of the thousands of other places just like it on LI. But needless to say, the food here is totally bomb.
5) The People
Northport is such a tight knit community with people who constantly give back to the town and its people. I am so lucky to have grown up alongside some of the kindest families ever. It’s really no wonder why a lot of people don’t leave and choose to raise their kids here.
So all in all, I am so blessed to call such an amazing town my home. And I have come to realize that leaving for school in the fall only makes coming back that more special.
