Life Lessons from the Great Gatsby

5 Things To Learn From The Great Gatsby
Wikipedia

After reading The Great Gatsby for about the fourth time now, I started to notice that there are some life lessons we can learn from this amazing book.

1. A girl being a fool is not okay-

A popular line from the book is when Daisy makes the statement "That's the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool." No matter how "blonde" I may be, I never want to be a fool. A fool can be known as a silly person, but the word fool is also defined as someone who acts unwisely. If anything why should girls be labeled to act unwisely? I mean who wants to be a beautiful women with no brains? Looks can only get you so far in life, and I think as women we rely too much on how we look instead of the knowledge we should be retaining instead. All the time we hear about how boys are breaking our hearts and we as girls fall for the wrong boys. I mean sure Daisy loves Gatsby, but she stays with her awful husband Tom in the end, but why? Because she thinks it is perfectly fine and thinks she has it all with him

2. Dishonesty in a woman is a thing you never blame deeply-

As much as we have hate being blamed for things, we hate being lied to. Just because we are women does not mean we should not also take guilt for our actions. A lot of women though do have the need to over care and over think situations in their lives which causes them to react. No matter a woman or man, all dishonesty should not go without being acknowledged.

3. I am one of the few honest people you may ever know-

Oh are you? Do not ever say this no matter how honest of a person you may think you are. If you have to state that you are honest, trustworthy, or whatever then it sounds to me you are not only trying to convince me, but also convince yourself. As we get older we should know what type of person we are in life (or at least the type of person we want to be). I should be willing to trust people on my own and not by having them tell me to trust them.

4. Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall-

Boy is this true. I feel like the person I am in the summer is not the same person I am once fall comes around. I get a new excitement in me that I only feel during the fall. In the fall there are so many things that just cannot take place during any other time of the year. From football season to that of pumpkin carving there is no other time this can happen. Depending on where you live, the fall and winter are the months that allow you to change the person you were in the summer.

5. Every young girl wants to be looked at like that some time-

Gatsby may have been a criminal and pretty much a stalker, but if anything he cared for Daisy deeply which is something that can be admired by just about anyone. A lot of us get caught up in the idea that love is dead and that there is no more hope for humanity. People look towards Gatsby with his fascination of Daisy that we all want a love as strong as the one he had for her. Having a guy that would do so much to impress a girl, but keep it calm and cool can be admired.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
