Thanksgiving is right around the corner. With everything going on between the election, school, work, and family we seem to forget this holiday is sneaking up on us! Not sure where to start or need some helpful tips? This Thanksgiving serves as a day to be grateful in many aspects. Sure everyone loves the idea of stuffing their belly with unforgettable food, but what about stuffing this Thanksgiving with spirit? Below I created a short list of how to get into the Turkey Day spirit.
1. Start gathering those recipes and food items.
Stuffing? Turkey? Sweet potatoes? Pumpkin pie? It's time to make that list and take a trip to the grocery store. What's on your meal agenda for Thanksgiving? Start writing a list to plan out all the delicious food courses throughout the day and evening.
2. Give back this Thanksgiving.
Whether it is donating to a local Veteran's home, soup kitchen or even your local church give the gift of giving back canned goods and items this holiday. You can also give back by spending quality time with relatives you may not keep in contact with that often.
3. Start a new tradition.
Tired of the same old Turkey Day tradition of watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade and eating dinner? Talk to your friends and family about beginning a new holiday tradition. Perhaps there is somewhere you always have wanted to visit. Maybe instead of one person preparing the whole meal you can have a potluck, where everyone brings a dish.
4. Watch your favorite Thanksgiving TV shows and movies.
When all the craziness of the holiday has simmered down, I love taking the time to sit back and watch my favorite Thanksgiving TV shows and movies. Some suggestions are Macy's 90th Annual Thanksgiving Day Parade, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, "Friends" Thanksgiving episodes, and an SNL Thanksgiving.
5. Spend time with those who make you feel grateful.
Who makes you feel grateful? Your dog? Your family? Or maybe even the fact that you are healthy and alive this holiday. Take time to thank those in your life whether it is the grocery store clerk, your mother for preparing the meal, or even your friends. Many times we fail to realize how truly grateful we are. This holiday season opens not only your heart but your mind to all those who surround you. That is one aspiration that makes me feel grateful.
