We all have those "down days" when we feel as if nothing can or will go right. For those of us with anxiety or depression then you know exactly what I'm talking about. I'm here to say that everything is going to be okay, no matter how long your slump lasts. Here are some tips on how to keep your mind off the negative aspects in life:

1. Clean!

This may sound completely counterproductive but it does distract you from most things going wrong in life. Studies have shown that having a clean, kept room can help keep the mind at ease.

2. Keep an agenda.

I write everything down. And by everything, I really do mean everything. It helps me look forward to future dates as well as keep me busy in the present time. Really nice agendas help motivate me to use it more often because who would want to waste money like that?

3. Vitamin D

You may very well need some sunshine! After-all, I can't recall a day out with friends or family in the sun when my mood wasn't boosted significantly. A good day at the beach could be just what the doctor ordered.

4. Hit the gym!

No, not the Pokemon Gym. Exercise has been proven to give you a natural high-and if you're like me, you will want to keep going back day after day because that satisfaction I get when I leave feels oh so good!

5. Read a book.

Reading a great novel can completely immerse you in a world other than your own. I get dragged into most books I read and don't often put it down once I pick it up. The time passes by quicker and you'll have a new topic to bring up at work or your next social gathering.

Each day I learn more and more about myself as I try to improve my outlook on life. Use these to start your own list of things to boost your mood like I have!

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
