5 Things To Do When You Get Bored

We all know the feeling when summertime hits and you feel like you have nothing to do. You know those days when you are stuck in the house and you cannot seem to find anything to do? This summer I have had one too many of those days. So, if you find yourself sitting at home with nothing to do, I have a few things that I recommend.

1. Read a book/series of books

I know that you may think reading is boring, but it's not! Pick up a really good book and fall into it. If you don't know a good book ask around or go to your local bookstore and ask the staff there what they recommend. I used to think reading was boring as well, but once you find a good book/series of books that you can really get into, it is so worth your time. Find a book/series of books that keep you questioning what is going to happen, that way you look forward to reading it. If you find yourself struggling or forcing yourself to read the book, then it's not for you. Pick up another book and try again. I suggest staying in the book store and reading the first chapter or two before buying it. Here are a few book series I suggest diving into:

1. The City of Bones Series

2. The Fallen Series

3. The Divergent Series

2. Watch Netflix/Hulu

I know this a common thing to do, but do it! There are so many movies and TV series on Netflix and Hulu. You may even find yourself watching a movie genre that you didn't even think you could be into. Steer away from what you're used to watching and watch something that you never thought you would be into. I recommend watching The Fast and the Furious movie series (although I may be a little biased because that's my favorite movie series). Dive into a TV series that you have always wanted to watch! I mean, if you're like me then you can finish all 11 seasons of Grey's Anatomy in a little less than three months (and that was when I had other obligations). Here are a few movies and TV series I recommend watching:

Movies:
1. Save The Last Dance
2. Hardball
3. A Girl Like Here
4. Brotherly Love
5. Cyberbully

TV Series:
1. Grey's Anatomy
2. Scandal
3. Criminal Minds
4. A Different World
5. Private Practice

3. Invite friends over

Instead of trying to find somewhere to go or something to do with your friends, just invite them over and have some fun at home. Order a pizza and watch a bunch of movies, cook some food together, or just talk to each other and tell each other funny stories about growing up. Too many times our generation gets caught up in our phones, electronics, and the world around us that we forget that talking is an important factor in forming a friendship/relationship.

4. Adopt an animal

This is something that I have recently done, and I am enjoying it so much. I just adopted a dog from the humane society and every time I get the slightest bit bored, I just play with my new puppy. Now I know it costs money to adopt animals, but it is still something to look into! Also, if you don't want to take on the responsibility of adopting a puppy, then get a kitten! Cats take a lot less responsibility to take care of than dogs and they are still very fun to play with!

5. Sit outside and enjoy nature

When you have nothing else to do, go sit outside and just enjoy the peace and quiet. If you have a little extra cash, go buy an ENO or hammock and just chill outside. I recommend taking that book outside and reading it. Outside has a lot more to offer than you think.

These are just a few things that I have found that you can do when all else fails and you feel like you have nothing else to do. Remember that life is what you make it, so if you make the best out of situations and your surroundings then you should never find yourself sitting at home bored.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant

There's always chaos in the restaurant business.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant
Brisanis

Working in the restaurant industry is possibly the most fundamentally challenging occupation I have ever experienced when it comes to hospitality and customer service. When you go to a five-star restaurant you expect the time of your life, a two hour getaway, a walk through another time period (rustic Italy, France, Spain, etc), or simply a honeymoon undergo. What you don't see are the behind the scenes scut work: carrying trays, polishing glassware and silverware, kitchen chaos, the list is endless. Now, I'm not saying being a host, server, or bartender is the worst thing in the whole wide world, there are definitely worse things. But the fact of the matter is that it isn't always sunshine and rainbows. In the two years that I have spent in restaurant and customer service, I have spoken my share of expletives, yelled at kitchen staff, and dealt with not-so-happy guests. It isn't easy to keep a bright and shiny smile on your face when all you want to do is choke every person who walks near you. Anyone who has spent even two weeks working in a restaurant understands the rigor and stress that comes with it. Restaurant culture is a tiny world in and of itself that operates on its own principles and creates its own society. It even has its own language. The sayings "runner", "corner", and "on a bus" wouldn't make sense to anyone otherwise. My mother and I both work in a restaurant and the best advice I can give someone going out to eat is to treat us like people. Yes...believe it or not we are people, people. Say "please" and "thank you", or stack your cleared plates before a busser gets to the table. Trust me, the gesture goes a lot farther than you may think.

So, if you work in a restaurant, you can relate with the following points. If not, check out how the brain of a restaurant service (or any customer service) worker actually works. See if you can identify any crazy weird habits your friends have a tendency to partake in.

One of the scariest things we will ever face in our life is going to college. Many of us move away to a new town, join new organizations, and make new friends. We are expected to study, have a social life, relationships, maybe work, and be healthy. It seems pretty easy to do, and in high school all we wanted to do was graduate and move on to this next chapter of our lives. If you are in high school, here are some things that you can learn from before you get to college. If you have already been through your freshman year of college, hopefully you can relate to the things I have learned in college.
