5 Things To Do On the Days Depression Wins

Losing the battle does NOT mean you are losing the war; it is just one day.

Many of us struggle with depression, and everyone knows that somedays, it wins the battle. But, the war never stops. On the days where it's particularly hard to function like a normal human these things may help.

1. Mentally make a list of your responsibilities for that day

Being aware of what you have to do that day can either help motivate you to get up and do them or it can show you who you have to call and let them know that you just can't do it today. It's okay to take a personal day to get yourself back on your feet.

2. Contact a friend who understands your depression

Get yourself out of the funk by just talking to a friend. You don't have to talk about anything in particular, just get yourself out of your own head. If they understand you have depression, they can help distract you better and help lift your spirits.

3. Turn on Netflix and turn off the lights

It's okay to submit to the darkness every so often. Just turn on your favorite movie or binge-worthy tv show and just lay in bed. You don't have to brush your hair or change out of your pajamas. If you don't have the energy to leave bed, make the most out of being in bed!

4. Don't shut others out!

We're all guilty of this. We're having a bad day and feel like no one understands us, or we're agitated so we don't want to talk to anyone but this doesn't help! Isolating yourself is one of the worst things you can do on days like this. You don't have to hold full conversations, but don't ignore someone if they start talking to you.

5. Know this is just one day

Just because depression wins one day doesn't mean it will win every day. Accept that you are having a bad day and let yourself indulge in this one day, but tell yourself that tomorrow will be different. Today is just one small battle in the big war, and it doesn't mean you are losing the war. You are strong and will make it to tomorrow and you will fight one day at a time.

Sorority

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
