We all know the struggle of being home for a month or so--your own bed, home cooked meals, seeing your old friends--and then having to return back to school. It comes with its pros and cons, because, let's be real, break can get pretty boring after awhile if you don't have a part time job or something to occupy your time. But nonetheless, there are "luxuries" we have at home that school just doesn't offer. Here are a few:
1. Having an entire house to yourself
You can watch as many hours of Netflix as you want, stay in your pajamas all day, or actually try that workout you never got around to at school.
2. Seeing your parents/family
Maybe this isn't applicable for everyone, but I love being able to spend time with my parents. It always reminds me how lucky I am to have a 24/7 support system. Seeing family around the holidays is a great reminder of where you came from and why you work so hard to get where you're going.
3. Not having any school work
Maybe you had an actual job, but once that was done, you could come home and relax or go out with friends. There were no assignments, readings, or upcoming exams looming over your head.
4. Not having to worry about buying groceries
Need I say more? More money in your pocket and better food at your disposal. What more could you want, really?
5. Being back in your hometown
It's always nice to visit home (at least for a little while)--driving around, seeing old places where you used to hang out, going back to the same restaurant/mall/etc. that you and your friends always went to. There's a sense of familiarity that comes with the place you grew up in that no other place in the world holds. And while you'll probably (most definitely) get bored after awhile, it's always a nice, nostalgic feeling for a little while.
But you're back at school. Tests and papers are a constant again and your mom's home cooked meals are a distant dream of the past. Until next time you go back home, anyway. Try not to eat too many Tastykakes in the meantime.
