5 Things That I Learned From Disney Movies

If you are like me you love everything that has to do with Disney. If you are not as obsessed as I am, I think it is safe to say that if you are reading this, you have watched at least one Disney movie before. If neither of these apply to you, please leave this page, turn on your tv, and go watch "The Lion King". For those of you still here, you know that in every Disney movie or show there is a larger theme or lesson the captures your heart and makes you ugly cry. So, I would like to talk about 5, probably obvious things, that I have learned from Disney movies.

1. It is alright to be sad sometimes.

Up until now, Disney has been making our hearts melt with their messages. This specific message I learned from "Inside Out" — I know, shocking, right! Sometimes when I feel like it is the end of the world, I am not one to look for comfort, pity, or to talk about my feelings. I do not like making people feel like they need to feel bad for me, so fake smiling is my go to. When Sadness consoles Bing Bong after Riley begins to forget him, Joy and I both realized that it is okay to be sad. Pretending to be happy and bottling up your feels will not make things better, it is okay to express how you feel. And of course, we all died a little bit on the inside when bing bong disappears. We’ll take Riley to the moon for you, Bing Bong!

2. Your family is your family.

No matter how much your family gets on your nerves, how small or how big it is, if your are related by blood or not, and even if your family is broken, “it is still good” and it is still yours. That’s what "Lilo And Stitch" taught me. Yes your parents may have made mistakes but if you lose them you know you will always regret it. Yes, your brothers and sisters get on your last nerve but ohana means family and family means nobody gets left behind, whether or not your dad is in the picture, your adopted, or you consider your friends your family, nothing is worth giving that up. Nobody gets left behind or forgotten!

3. Learn from your past

Everyone makes mistakes. Everyone wishes they could take something back. But the truth of the matter is if we never learned from the past, we would not be who we are today. You can run from your past but that will not make it go away, it will just make you filled with regret and pain. That is what "The Lion King" taught me. That past hurts regardless, but if it did not happen, you would have never learned what was right.

4. Follow your dreams

There are so many Disney movies that have taught me to follow my dreams but the first and biggest one that did was "Cinderella". Cinderella taught me that a dream is a wish your heart makes and that if I believe that dream and work for that dream it can come true. There are times that life might lock me in a room like Cinderella's evil step mother but if I do not give up, I will break out.

5. Don’t give up

"Finding Nemo" taught me to just keep going or "just keep swimming". Failure is a part of life and if Walt Disney gave up after being fired when they told him he was not creative enough, we would not be where we are today. Our childhood would not have been filled with so much magic and wonder and dreams if he did not keep swimming. Yes, it is hard to get discouraged and give up when things are not going the way you planned but with a little faith, trust, and pixie dust, you will be on your way to fulfilling all your dreams with a lifetime of happiness.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.
