Theres arguably nothing better than a heatwave spring semester in Madison. After being frozen in negative degree weather for about 4 months, the first signs of heat are extremely exciting. Get ready to take off your big winter jackets and snowboots, spring might be here? This weather automatically puts anyone in a better mood, here are 5 things that happen when theres a heatwave:

1) Going to the Terrace

With a heatwave in Madison the terrace is definitely one of the first places we all think of to go. Thanks to global warming the lake is still frozen enough for us to walk on, yet we don't even have to wear winter jackets. Take a walk on the lake, do work outside or at the memorial union, or enjoy a meal outside, the terrace is definitely a perfect place to go.

2) Food Carts

Definitely one of the best, most unique things about our campus that is missed during the winter. Weather its for study break, class break, or just going for a walk, food carts are the perfect place to go with friends and grab some food. Sitting outside eating food from the food carts is a great Madison experience that everyone loves to do when it's nice out!

3) Darties.

Day. Parties. Need I say more?

4) Running outside

When the weather is nice all you want to do is be outside. Walking or running on the lakeshore path is a great way to spend part of your day. Exercise outside and enjoy the sunshine and slight heat since it won't last for long.

5) Walking to the Capitol

With the sun shining and the weather nice and warm, the Capitol is a perfect place to go. Take some time to walk around the Capitol and get brunch with family and friends. It's a perfect way to spend some time in the sunshine and enjoy it while you can!

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
