We can’t deny the fact that science has advanced and technology has significantly improved. And compared to the past, we have a higher quality of life, more convenience, and many incurable diseases have been cured. However, the truth is there are things that science still cannot explain why they are happening. And surprisingly, the “things” I am talking about are things that happen to us everyday. Below is the list:
1. Hiccups.
Hiccups are brief and involuntary contractions of the diaphragm muscle. And it happens by eating too fast and swallowing air due tochewing gum, smoking, and etc. If you have ever been through a hiccup, you will know that it is one of the most uncomfortable feeling ever. But there is no exact explaining why hiccups happen.
2. Face blush/flush.
Blushing is the reddening of a person's face due to psychological reasons. And it happens when we feel embarrassed, nervous, or angry. Past studies proposed that there are mechanisms that create blushing; however, there is still no actual proof.
3. Human are the only species that can kiss.
To be exact, humans are the only species that kiss to express feeling and emotion while other species do not. Kisses can express love, attraction, respect, friendship, and etc. However, it could not be proved if other mammals use kisses to express feeling.
4. Humans are also the only species that actually cry.
Similar to kisses, humans are the only species that cry to express feeling and emotion. Crying can express sadness, happiness, strong emotion, and etc. And while, it could not be proved if other mammals cry to express feeling either.
5. Humans sneeze when looking at the sun.
We sneeze for many reasons; however, one of the reason is the sun. About 20-22% of the total population sneeze when they look at the sun. And unfortunately, scientists still cannot explain why.
It is interesting how things happen to us everyday and we don’t why.
