5 Things That Every Senior In College Knows To Be True

Being a senior in college is very bittersweet. You know that you are (probably) graduating in May so you only have a few precious months of college left to order too much pizza, drink on a Wednesday night, sleep in, and enjoy time with your friends. At the same time, part of you is a little bit eager to see what else the world has to offer. College has been amazing, but part of you feels ready to move on and realize how mature you've become since your freshmen dorm days. Here's some experiences that every senior in college has.

You order way too much takeout even though you probably have access to a kitchen.

Although you most likely live in an apartment or house or somewhere with a kitchen, you still find yourself ordering takeout way too often each week and getting pizza after a drunken night out. It's not helping your bank account or your healthy eating goals, but even though you went grocery shopping you still can't get yourself to meal prep or cook healthy dinners every night after class. And the weekends are basically a free-for-all.

You probably have already skipped class too much, or skipped at least one class you maybe shouldn't have.

You know that you're paying for your classes and that its valuable to attend, but part of you is so over buying school supplies and textbooks and waking up bright and early to get ready for class each morning. You probably didn't get all (or any) of your textbooks and you attempted to go school supplies shopping but didn't get much in the way of organization. And your underclassmen habits of getting ready for class are gone. Sweatpants and a bun are a good look for stepping onto campus on a Monday.

You go out drinking on weeknights and have abandoned house and frat parties altogether for the bars.

It's likely your first full year of college being 21, so you can't get enough of the bars, no matter how small your college town may be. There are probably college night specials that are usually on weeknights, and you find yourself going there even if you have to wake up early the next day.

You're struggling with your finances.

Maybe you're magically awesome at budgeting and keeping all your finances together, or maybe part of you is still a little irresponsible (you're not fully in the "real" world yet!) and you're blowing a little too much on pizza, beer, and unnecessary purchases.

You live for the weekends and/or school breaks.

You're happy to be at school with your friends, but you're really getting tired of the weekly grind that has been virtually the same for the past three years. you're getting tired of class, fighting for seats in the library and the same events happening on campus each year. You probably dream about the weekends or school breaks a little too much just to let loose or relax.

Even though senioritis and being a senior in college can be a struggle, you can't imagine leaving this place in a few months and no longer getting student discounts, going to your college town bars, being in your clubs and living near all of your friends. Your time here is short, but you're going to make the best of it!

I'll never forget the day that someone told me these words: "Madison, I think you're a good friend to everyone but yourself." I stood there completely in awe of that statement. Before that day, I never really thought about being a friend to myself, and at the time, I didn't really know what it meant. Now, I realize that you can't fully be there for other people unless you're there for yourself, too. You can't show up for others until you're willing to show up for yourself.

Here are five things everyone should learn in order to be a better friend to themselves. These steps are hard, but they're so worth it.
