Working at a daycare I have had the most disgusting yet most amazing experiences while working. But it is more work than you think. I made a list of things that you will 100% experience while working at daycare. Even though these five things are pretty gross, they are all very worth it.
1) Bowle Movement on you
Being pooped on or getting poop on you while working with kids is one of the most feared experiences. Wether you're with four year olds or babies, somehow you are bound to find or smell poop on you throughout the day.
2) Peed on more than once
Getting peed on is so funny when it is not you! But it is not rare that a caregiver gets a nice pee shower, even if you're not changing an infants diaper; don't worry a toddler would be gladly to help out to make sure you do end up with a nice urine scent when you get home.
3) Wether its spit up or throw up you don't leave without either of those on you.
You are more than 100% sure to be spit up on during the day when with babies. Whether it is just a little or a whole projectile vomit, (which I have unfortunately experienced) you will smell like baby spit up. It is definitely the one of most common things to happen. And the worst thing is it ends up anywhere; in your hair, your feet, and even your clothes, I also have had the unfortunate experience of tasting it because when I held a baby up in the air they decided to spit up right in my mouth, I definitely have never brushed my teeth for so long in one night after that incident.
4)Random boogers appear on you throughout the day
At the end of the day when you get home there is nothing like searching your whole body to see how many dried up boogies you find stuck to you. With the constant runny noses, careless snot down to their chin, and fingers that were once digging for fresh gold there is no doubt you will end up with some sort of crusted up goober stuck to your arm or in your hair by the end of the day. A shower at the end of each work day will never be so satisfying.
5) A daily headache
Whether its a headache or constant fatigue all you want to do by the end of the day is fall onto your bed and go right to sleep. Having a pounding headache is just something you grow numb to, it is just expected when going into work. So be sure to pack plenty of pain medicine.
But the best is that its all worth it. All those negative experiences is what makes working at the daycare so memorable. It is those funny yet gross stories that you look back on and just laugh. I truly don't mind ever having one of those experiences because working and caring for kids is more than just a job for me, I love it and I am proud to come home with dried up boogers on my legs, old smelly spit up knotted in my hair, a pounding headache, and poop and pee stains on my clothes.
