5 Things I'm Thankful For

Because what else is thanksgiving for than to remind us to be thankful

With the Thanksgiving holiday spirit in the air, I wanted to share a few of the things that I am thankful for this year:

1. My Family

I am a huge family person, and even though mine is crazy and there is always some drama going on, I couldn't imagine life without them. We come together during the hard times, and we help each other out. My family is my support system, they keep me grounded and they build me up. Though this was the first Thanksgiving I spent without my parents, I was still with family, and that made it okay. I love my family and I am so thankful for each and every one of them.

2. My Friends

My friends, oh how I love my friends. I am seriously so blessed for the friends I have in my life. They are always there for me, whether they are near or far, and they always have my back. My friends pick me up when I am down and they make me feel like I am enough. They keep me sane in a world that is going insane, and I honestly don't know what I would do without them. I am so thankful for all of my friends, new and old, and I wish I could do more to show them how blessed I am to have them in my life.

3. My Faith

Whether you are a believer or not, I am thankful for my faith in Christ. My faith is what keeps me from the darkest of days because I always have a light shining within. Whenever things go bad, i look for the positive and tell myself that everything is going to be okay, trust in God's plans. Better days are ahead. If it wasn't for my faith, I would probably be a pessimist instead of an optimist, so I'm thankful for all the light it has brought into my life.

4. My dog

I wouldn't be an obsessed dog-lover if I wasn't thankful for my side kick.

5. My Sorority

Joining Gamma Phi Beta this year was one of the best things that I have done. I am surrounded by strong women who accept me for who I am. I never felt secure about who I was and how I appeared until they helped show me that I am more than other people's opinions of myself. I am so thankful for all of my sisters and all that Gamma Phi Beta has brought to me.

Though Thanksgiving is over, I think it is important to remember that we should be thankful for all that we have every single day, and not just on one day. We should constantly be reminding the people in our lives that we love them and that we are happy to have them experiencing life beside us. Spread the good vibes!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
