We all know that no matter how many mistakes we make throughout the course of growing up, and how many times we fight with our parents, our grandparents still love us no matter what. When you're upset, they're sure to come to the rescue with baked goods and compliments about how you'll always be the favorite grandchild (you know it's true). No matter how old we get, we'll always have a special place in our hearts to thank our grandparents for, and here are just a few of them.
1. You're never wrong, no matter what.
Like I said, we do no wrong in the eyes of our grandparents. Every time I got grounded in high school, my grandma was always the first person I'd call. And despite the circumstances, she always found some way to defend whatever it was I did to get grounded in the first place. Grandparents see us as angels, even when deep down we know we were in the wrong (mwahaha).
2. They're great cooks.
There's nothing that tastes quite as good as your grandma's Christmas cookies, or Sunday dinners at your grandparents' house. You know that delish recipe your mom tried out last week? She more than likely got that from her parents. The best thing about your grandparents' cooking is that the recipes get handed down each generation, so you'll know how to perfect those raviolis when you have children someday.
3. They're incredibly wise.
Growing up, my grandpa always gave me the best advice. Grandparents just have a way with words, and a realistic viewpoint on most issues that we encounter every day. They're level-headed, smart, and know when to tell you just what you need to hear to get through the day. I even have a tattoo on my wrist in my grandmother's handwriting, that says "Que Sera Sera" which means "Whatever will be, will be." A word of advice from your grandparents will never go out of style.
4. They teach you what it means to be in love.
Recently, my grandparents took a short vacation to Walt Disney World (adorable, right?) On one of the days, my grandma had a terrible headache, and decided to spend the day relaxing in the hotel instead. My grandpa spent the entire day by her side, in the dark, so that the light wouldn't bother her eyes. He even kept the television muted, so that the noise wouldn't make her headache even worse. When my grandma told us the story afterwards, she said, "true love is all about making sacrifices". They've been together since they were teenagers, and I could listen to the story of how they met over and over without getting bored of it. There's something about grandparents' relationships that is timeless, and totally adorable.
5. They raised your parents, essentially raising you.
When your parents were struggling to potty train you, or couldn't seem to get you to fall asleep when you were a restless toddler, who do you think they went to? Most likely, their parents. Whenever my mom couldn't get me to listen as a bratty child, my grandma always knew just what to do. They raised your parents to be the greatest parents that they could be to you, so be thankful for them.
