5 Things You Should Do During The Holiday Season
Bienvenidos

Everyone knows what time of the year it is! It's the most wonderful time of the year, as everyone says. While living in the St. Louis area, you get to go see all of the things the city puts on and all of the work they put towards it. Although Christmas is quickly approaching there are still some things to get out there and do to make your holiday season and experience even better!

1. Light Displays

Light displays are always a fun thing to go look around or even drive around to and St. Louis and the surrounding areas have a ton of great ones. The one pictured above are the brewery lights in St. Louis, it's a walk around one which can be a little cold, but they also have hot chocolate for purchase, beer, and fires set up all around if you need to warm up. For driving around lights I'd recommend the way of lights which is at National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville Illinois, it's free with a donation of any kind, but they also have many other activities to do.

2. Ice Skating

Ice skating is one of my favorite things to do during this time of the year. One of the best spots to go ice skating is Steinberg Ice Skating Rink in Forest Park! It's an outdoor ice skating rink as pictured above, it does cost for admission and skates, but you can skate for however long you want and it's always fun to go with friends and family! There's also many ice skating spots around St.Louis, even ones indoors for the really cold nights, that are just as fun.

3. Go Sledding/Skiing/Snowboarding

Although there are few places I know of to actually go skiing or snowboarding, one of the areas finest places to go is Hidden Valley located outside of St. Louis in Eureka. Hidden Valley is a place to sled, ski, and snowboard, although it can be a little pricey it is definitely worth the price at the end of the day. You pay for it all and they have all the equipment you need to be able to ski, sled, or snowboard and it's always a fun time. Another awesome place to go, but only when it actually snows is Art Hill in St. Louis, on a snowy day there will be hundreds of people out there sledding in the snow.

4. Watch Christmas Movies

While this one isn't only for St.Louis and surrounding areas, it is an important one. Everyone has at least one favorite Christmas movie and then there are some people who can't narrow it down to one, I can't really narrow it down. Whether your favorite is an old time classic or a newer one, make sure to sit down and watch it with people you care about during this holiday season.

5. Going and Getting A Real Tree

While I don't know exactly of any good tree farms around the area, I know there are many. Going out and getting a real tree is a fun experience for the whole family and it's bonding time together also. I love that I've had a real tree all of my life and that we've always went to get one together. Whether it's cutting down your own or even going to get one that's already been cut down, it's still fun for the whole family.

These are just a few of my favorite things to do during the holiday season. It's always more fun to experience this season with family and friends and not alone. It's also more fun to go out and do things during this time of the year. Don't be a scrooge and go have some fun this holiday season!

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
