As a new school year starts this upcoming week, I start my second year of college. Having mixed emotions may seem normal after my first year, but the emotions are all new. Freshman year you have no expectations or any clue what is going to hit you and you basically just go with the flow. This year, I have moved out of the dorms, moved in with a new roommate and started new classes. Even though many of these are similar to last year, it is still different and a hard adjustment.
Many people may think that Freshman year is the hardest because you are new to the experience but I believe that sophomore year can be just as new. Here are somethings that are different between Freshman and Sophomore year in college:
1. Moving into a new place
Moving into a new place can be fun and exciting, but it also means a lot of new responsibilities. You have to clean up after your self in the kitchen and bathroom. The hardest part for me so far is having to cook and grocery shop for our own.
2. Paying rent
This year I have to learn to budget my money on food, rent and for when I want to have a good time. I also have to learn to get my rent checks in on time and to make sure I pay all my bills.
3. Harder classes
This year not only does work load getting bigger in things other than school but my classes also get harder. With more classes and higher level classes on my load, I will have to spend more time on my classes then I have ever before.
4. You're supposed to know everything
Where is you're next class? When are you supposed to turn in that paper? What are you supposed to do in that situation? Now being a sophomore, you are expected to know what to do and when to do it in and there is no excuse of being a freshman when you do it wrong.
5. Finding new ways of making new friends
Freshman year you have friends practically made for you. In classes professors set you up with new people and you meet kids around school every year, but freshman year you meet people at freshman events and in the dorms. Things your freshman year are set up for you to meet new people and the rest of the years its all up to you.
