Philly fans are unique. We are ruthless, compassionate, proud, and fierce. We look forward to every gameday with passion and excitement, and the love we have for our sports teams is unlike any other. That is what I love about this fan base. If you are a Philly fan, there are many things you know and love about the teams and some things you do not. Either way, your love for Philly sports never goes away.
1.The phrases “Trust the Process” and “Rebuilding”
.As a loyal Sixers fan, you understand the phrases “trust the process” and “rebuild”. This signifies the Sixers' efforts to build the team into their previous status as a powerhouse. When you think of Philly basketball during its glory, you think about key players who made the team successful. Of course, this includes Julius Erving and Allen Iverson. Today, the 76ers draft and train players to rebuild the team that will bring glory back to Philly basketball. When Joel Embiid hits the floor, everyone shouts these phrases. The future is bright in Philly! I guess we really should trust the process.
2.The loathe for the Dallas Cowboys.
My father, a dedicated Eagles fan, taught me that “Dallas sucks” and to “Root for the Eagles and anyone who is playing against the Cowboys”. He lives by these phrases. I would say the Eagles and Cowboys rivalry is the biggest rivalry in Philly. This match up is the most important of their season.
3. We always look like the bad guys.
Just because Philly fans have a lot of passion for our sports teams, we often look like the villains. Often, we get a little out of hand, but that is what happens when you love your team through terrible losses and lack of championships. We show pride for our team, even in the rough moments.
4. Other teams make up the same comebacks against us again and again.
“When did you win the Super Bowl?” “When were you last in the playoffs?” “Why do you draft players who are always hurt?” As a Philly fan, we often hear these jabs from other teams’ fans. We know we have not won a Super Bowl or recently played in the playoffs; but who cares! We are still confident in our team.
5. The unreal atmosphere and unconditional love for Philly teams.
No greater feeling arises than when you watch a game at “The Linc” or at the Wells Fargo Center. You cannot describe the feeling of watching your favorite team live. You feel a sense of family that you would not trade for the world. I will admit: it is difficult to be a fan of a Philly team, but no other city gives you a sense of family, pride, and brotherly love.
