For people like me who live in parts of the country where it’s winter about 80% of the time, warm weather is both a blessing and a curse. A blessing, because who couldn’t use a little sunshine after 6 straight months of snow, ice, and below-freezing temperatures, and a curse because our bodies have no idea how to handle anything above 70°. Due to our innate ability to handle cold weather (and subsequent lack of ability to handle warm weather), there are certainly things that cold-climate inhabitants know to be true. Such as...
1. It’s never too cold for iced coffee.
Walking around with an iced coffee in hand in the middle of January (sometimes sans mittens) is par for the course.2. When it actually gets warm, the sweat struggle is real.
Anything above 75 degrees and I start to look like I’ve just run a marathon, even if I’ve been sitting completely still. And don’t even get me started on what happens when it’s humid.
3. 40° in the fall is very different from 40° in the spring.
In the fall:
In the spring:
40° in the fall means that you’re once again being plunged into the seemingly neverending winter, 40° in the spring means said winter has miraculously come to an end.
4. Air-conditioning is your best friend during the summer.
I’m not exaggerating when I say that during the summer my family has 2 air conditioners and like 3 fans going at the same time — and that’s just for the kitchen, dining room, and living room.
5. Summer is short, so you have to make the most of it while it lasts.
We know that by the end of August the temperature is going to start dropping again, so we cram as many barbeques, swims, and ice cream cones into the short summertime we are given. As much as we may be ill-suited to warm weather, let it never be said that we take our summers for granted.
BONUS: You identify all too much with a certain well-know Game of Thrones quote.
Because it's true pretty much all the time.
