Last night, I sat at the of my dorm as we waited for the tornadoes to pass through Hattiesburg. There were many things running through my head as wait for about three hours in a crowded hall. Everyone seemed to be calm like this happened all the time, but where I'm from it doesn't. So here are a few things I thought as the tornadoes hit Hattiesburg.
1. Am I supposed to get in a ball with a book over my head like in elementary school?
I literally have not had a tornado drill since elementary school, so I had no clue as we sat in the hall way. I got the craziest looks when I asked this because I was one of the only ones that did not know what to do.
2. I wish this was a hurricane.
It is really sad but at that point I said I would rather go through a hurricane because I would know what to do.
3. Oh thank goodness it turned into a flash flood warning.
At that point, I said oh good I know what to do in a flood but I can't handle a tornado.
So the moral of the story is that Louisianans are not mental prepared for tornadoes what so ever.
