I have lived in Vermont my entire life. Though it has many similarities to the other New England states, there are five things that separate Vermont from the rest.
1. Blizzards don't exist.
Blizzards literally DO NOT exist in Vermont. I don't mean that they don't happen, but they are never serious enough for schools or businesses to close. At least not very often.
2. There are practically no snow days...ever.
Along the same lines that blizzards don't exist, neither do snow days. Where schools in New York, New Hampshire, and other surrounding states close as soon as the words snow storm pop up in the weather forecast, Vermont officials will literally wait until the snow is so high, that it covers people's doors, to cancel school.
3. People start wearing shorts and tee shirts when it is above 32 degrees and stop when it is below.
Even before the snow is gone, people will start wearing shorts and tee shirts as soon as it is above freezing. After the sub zero degree weather experienced during winter, 40 degrees feels like the middle of the hottest August day.
4. The Difference between Fake and Real Maple syrup.
Fake maple syrup is considered to be poison to a Vermonter. Fake maple syrup is made up of Grade C, the lightest and sweetest of the maple syrup grades. This is the stuff that real Vermonters don't like so it gets sold to people out of state.
5. It is a CREEMEE not SOFT-SERVE!!!!!!!!!
Though in other states it is soft-serve, in Vermont, it is a Creemee. End of story. Please don't argue this or complain. We understand that we aren't understood on this issue. I guess that's why we still have the right to secede from the nation.
