The 90s were a time of break-out music, new technology and fascinating gadgets and toys. The fashion was one in its own and the people were a close second. Sure each era has their own characteristics, but the 90s were something that only a few generations can truly appreciate. So here's some things that only kids that grew up in the 90s will appreciate.
1. Gauchos
Was I the only one that wore these? The only way I can think to explain these horrendous creations is that it was like a shin-length skirt that was cut into pants. These things came in every shape, form and fashion and are now mostly used for pregnant women. Without these beauties, you were nothing more than just another face in the elementary school hallways.
2. Tamagotchi
These small, yet powerful toys were something that got us ready for the real world more than our Social Studies class ever did. This small digital pet taught responsibility and care that any dog and cat could never do. While feeding it and picking up after it, you could also play with it and mate it to where you could start all over again. Or you could be like me and not tell my mom that I could mate them and just keeping getting total new ones because mine had already "grown up."
3. Boy Bands
Sure, you may think that the boy bands today are completely everything you dreamed of and are the best ever, but the ones in the 90s had something special about them; the late and great Aaron Carter, Backstreet Boys, NSYNC—I mean, what other boy bands do you know that could make a hit out of one word repeated three times to make a song that is still sung today?
4. Television
TV shows were always worth getting up early or staying up late to watch. "All That," "Boy Meets World" and "Spongebob." Have you noticed that this was the prime for all kids television shows. Nowadays all they watch are shows about dragons and vampires. We got our scare from a cartoon dog who had monsters in his house.
5. Technology
I think I am starting to feel bad for the generations to come. Sure they will have all the cool new gadgets and technology right at their fingertips, but I am not sure that they will be able to really remember ever going out and climbing a tree or playing hide-and-seek or tag with friends. What's really scary is that they probably won't know the pure frustration and time it takes to actually punch the buttons multiple times on a cell phone key pad just to type out the word "hello."
So here's my advice: look up from the cool new apps on your phones or the next uploaded picture on Instagram and actually go and experience something that you can never find on a social media site. You never know what you might find!
