5 Things To Do Now That Finals Are Over

Besides stress about next years classes.

5 Things To Do Now That Finals Are Over

Congratulations! Even if you just barely passed you still managed to make it through the semester. While that isn't an entirely remarkable achievement you still deserve some credit where credit is due. Besides just getting a not so affordable education, students have many other responsibilities besides school such as work and unfortunate family situations. Professors may understand our circumstances but they still need to do their jobs so skating by is incredibly difficult. Now that finals are over we can return home and the majority of us will start our summer jobs. As celebrations though here's five things to do to celebrate now that finals are over.

1. Sleep

Being real the fact is students in college have a grand history of pulling repeated all-nighters, especially during finals week. I am the embodiment of this particular stereotype. Going from my dorm to class and holing up in the dorm again pulling one all-nighter after the next. Repeating that you'll sleep after you get back from class are all things I've done multiple times during midterm and finals week. So tonight make up for all the missed sleep and just pass out.

2. Meet up with friends from home

No matter how much you've changed over the course of a semester with either how you think or act there will always be a few people who will have you back when you're back home. So before you take the plunge of overworking at your summer job take a week and enjoy time with them. You'll be recharged enough so that you can go back to dealing with irritating coworker and customers alike.

3. Binge watch

Anything you enjoy, no judgment and any snacks you want. The word dieting shouldn't exist during your binge-watching time. Go the full nine yards and if you are down invite your friends over. If not then just let the relaxation time do its work.

4. Get a haircut

A nicer way of saying that is to treat yourself. But let's be honest we've all let our scruff take over our lives. With our hair in our eyes, we took our finals as the color continued to fade away just as our optimism did. After a quick redo of our hairdo, we can finally take to the streets with some semblance of self-confidence.

5. Start job hunting

After properly refreshing yourself and showing off your new shave, you may have enough of a self-confidence boost to send out resume after resume. Rember that you made it through a year of college and you'll make it to the next one even if things don't go how you pictured them. If it is your final year and you've stepped out into the 'real world' I wish you all the luck and hope your job hunt goes better then everyone's combined.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
